Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
“Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)” is a medical treatment in which the patient is enclosed in a pressure chamber breathing 100% pure oxygen (O2). During HBOT, due to higher pressure the Oxygen dissolves more in the liquid part of blood (plasma) and its level increases 10-20 times of normal level. This oxygen reaches all areas of the body –those places also where it was not reaching earlier due to inadequate blood supply.
In a hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber, the air pressure is increased to three times higher than normal air pressure. Under these conditions, your lungs can gather more oxygen than would be possible breathing pure oxygen at normal air pressure.
Your blood carries this oxygen throughout your body. This helps fight bacteria and stimulate the release of substances called growth factors and stem cells, which promote healing.
HBOT helps to regenerate or repair damage cells in our body and provide better regeneration if given with stem cell transplantation. But patient require at least 20-40 sessions which can be given one or two times in day and every session takes 1½ hr.
Role of HBOT for Medical uses:-
Hearing loss (Deafness)
Avascular Necrosis (AVN)
Central Arterial Occlusion
